The big change for compact mode is that the sidebar is converted to tabs, meaning the sidebar takes up less real estate. The new mode should work well with devices like Asus’ ROG Ally and Lenovo’s Legion Go, and Microsoft says it’s working with Asus and “other manufacturers” to “ensure compact mode is enabled by default on your handhelds.”
The Xbox PC app will now only display unread notifications when you’re viewing the notification drop-down list, and it’s getting a “Game Services Repair Tool” to help fix issues. There are also a number of improvements for Xbox consoles, including the ability to select a custom Japanese keyboard layout.
