The 49ers have invested third-round draft picks in back-to-back seasons in running backs.

And none of them made an impact with the club before going to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ty Davis-Price, the 49ers’ third-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, has signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, reps. It was reported on social media on Tuesday.

The 49ers selected running back Trey Sermons in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In the year When the 49ers broke a sermon at the end of training camp in 2022, the Eagles declared their innocence.

Davis-Price, the 93rd overall pick in the 2022 draft, appeared in just seven games for the 49ers. Undrafted running back Jordan Mason beat him out for playing time in his rookie season.

Then, Davis-Price dropped down the depth chart with the mid-season trade of Christian McCaffrey.

Davis Price’s career with the 49ers included 120 rushing yards and no touchdowns on 40 rushing attempts.

The 49ers waived Davis-Price on Dec. 5 to make room on the 53-man roster to sign veteran defensive tackle Logan Ryan. When Davis Price cleared waivers, the 49ers re-signed him to the practice squad and sat him out the rest of the season.

The 49ers have gotten very few — or none — of the running backs the 49ers have drafted since 2017.

Elijah Mitchell is the best draft pick among running backs. A sixth-round pick in 2021, Mitchell led the team as a rookie. He has been a solid support behind McCaffrey but has struggled to stay on the field due to injuries.

Sermon’s brief stint with the 49ers consisted of nine games with 167 yards and 41 rushing attempts.

In the year He played just two games for the Eagles in 2022, then was traded to the Indianapolis Colts last season. In 14 games last season, he had 35 carries for 160 yards for the Colts.

McCaffrey, Mitchell and Mason are the only running backs on the 49ers roster.
