WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Hunter Sallis scored 29 points and Andrew Carr had a big second-half performance as Wake Forest edged No. 8 Duke 83-79 on Saturday, getting a big boost to its NCAA Tournament chances.

As Demon Deacon fans filed onto the court to celebrate, Duke star Kyle Filipowski made his way to the locker room tunnel, appearing injured after colliding with a fan running alongside him. He collapsed in the chaos and had to be helped off the court.

Duke coach John Scheer said after the game that Filevsky suffered an ankle injury in the scrimmage.

“When will we ban court raiders?” Scheier asked the media. “When do we stop this? How many times does a player have to get into something, get punched or pushed, or taunted in the face? It’s a dangerous thing.

“You look around the country. Kaitlyn Clarke, something happened. And now Flip, I don’t know what’s going to happen to him. He cut his ankle. It’s something, like when I was playing, it was at least 10 seconds. You storm the court and now there’s not even a scream and they’re running on the floor this year. A lot has happened to us.

Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes agrees with Scheier – court interference should not be allowed in the game.

“I didn’t see what happened in the end. I hope he’s okay,” Forbes said. “I don’t like court crimes. I never have. I’ve been a part of those before. They don’t feel safe.”

Filipowski had 17 points to lead the Blue Devils (21-6, 12-4).

Sallis hit two free throws for the Demon Deacons (18-9, 10-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) with 1.8 seconds left to cap the game. Carr finished with 16 of his 18 points after the break, including one that allowed the Demon Deacons to get out of the post or score inside Mark Mitchell.
