The next Made by Google event is less than a month away, and we may already know what one of the marquee announcements will look like. TikTok user pixo_unpacking (through YTechB) released videos of what appears to be pre-production samples of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 XL over the weekend.
The backs of the phones in the video are different: a glossy finish on the back of the standard Pixel 9 and a matte finish on the larger Pixel XL. 9 to 5 Google notes These appear to include the cutouts on the back panel that Google uses for prototypes, though they’re mostly covered by labels on the clips.
Based on the video, the Pixel 9 has two cameras and the Pixel 9 XL has three. In addition, Google seems to have changed the camera viewfinder to an elongated oval. As you can see from the sections of the video that show the two phones side by side, it looks like quite a bump.
Google sent out invitations to the August 13 event last month. While (surprisingly) lacking in details, it promised to “showcase the best of Google AI, Android software, and the Pixel device portfolio.” The event will be held at Google’s Mountain View headquarters, rather than the typical New York City location for Pixel launches.
In addition to the Pixel 9 series, we expect the next-generation Pixel Fold, the new Tensor chip and the third-generation Pixel Watch. (And a possible Pixel Buds appearance.)
