brand new The Boston Red Sox signed an outfielder Adam Duvall has no experience playing at Fenway Park.
After spending nine seasons in the National League, Duvall played just four games in Boston’s home ballpark. The lack of familiarity with leading the outfield makes it a challenge for Duvall, as the Red Sox’s every-day center fielder allows him to do so.
“The biggest challenge will be the dimensions.” Duvall told reporters. Wednesday, by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “I thought about watching some games and learning how to play the ball over the wall or ball. … I’m thinking of ways to familiarize myself with the park.”
One way Duval plans to do that is by enlisting the help of current members of the Red Sox, especially Kiki Hernandez, to get him up to speed on their new outfield.
Hernandez, who helped recruit Duvall to Boston, spent the past two seasons playing center field with the Red Sox and should be a trusted source as he can offer advice to Duvall to help him make the transition.
“Probably the first person I would go to for advice … it’s a very unique ballpark, it takes some getting used to.” Duvall told reporters.By Gabriel Starr of the Boston Herald. “I’m ready for the challenge, I’m looking forward to it. Honestly, I can’t wait to go. “
Duvall has the ability to play all three outfield positions, but saw most of his time with the Atlanta Braves during an injury-shortened 2022 campaign.
