Quick thoughts on Ohio State’s 86-70 win:
How did it happen?
In Bloomington, Ohio State and Indiana had a solid first half until the last three and a half minutes. That’s when Indiana kicked into another gear on both ends. After a ZK free throw to get the Buckeyes within one at 31-30, the Hoosiers exploded. Indiana outscored Ohio State 15-0 in the final 3:31. Malik Reneau made a bucket to score the run. Trey Galloway followed that up with an acrobatic pose. Then Trace Jackson-Davis had a fast break. Another Jackson-Davis bucket stretched the lead to nine. Jalen Hood-Schifino then hit his sixth 3-pointer of the half. Another bucket by Reneau extended the lead to 14 and Caleb Banks scored his second bucket of the game to make it 46-30 Hoosier.
The Buckeyes got within 11 early in the second half, but Indiana extended the lead to 17 at the 13:30 mark on Jackson-Davis’ bucket. At the end of the eight-down media timeout, Indiana’s lead was 15 at 70-55. The Hoosiers extended their lead to 19 with 5:17 left on free throws by Jackson-Davis. With the Hoosiers leading by half-digits, Ohio State didn’t seriously challenge Indiana the rest of the way. The win was Indiana’s fifth straight and improved the Hoosiers to 15-6 overall and 6-4 in league play.
Good performers
Hood-Schifino was excellent, finishing with 24 points on 6-for-9 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc. It wasn’t the most efficient shooting night for Jackson-Davis (8-for-18), but he still managed another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He also had six assists and two blocked shots. Malik Reneau had his second straight scoring game with 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Stats that stand out
