Over 200 developers at Bethesda Game Studios, the studio behind hit franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, They joined the Communications Workers of America (CWA). According to a CWA press release, 241 workers, including “artists, engineers, programmers and designers,” have signed union authorization cards or “requested union representation through an online portal.”
Microsoft recognized the union, CWA says; the company has already recognized unions formed by Activision QA staff and ZeniMax Studios QA staff. CWA describes it as “the first wall-to-wall union at a Microsoft video game studio,” meaning all eligible positions will be represented by CWA instead of just one type of employee, according to CWA’s Katalina Brennan-Gatica. . (So far, all unions at Microsoft-owned studios have been formed by QA employees only.)
Bethesda employees will be members of CWA Local 2108 in Maryland and CWA Local 6215 in Texas.
Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
