It’s been almost five years since Borderlands 3 was released and we got Wonderland in the interim, fans have been wanting a fourth main game to be announced and then released, especially now that Gearbox owns Embracer and it feels like a disaster. can strike at any moment.

now, The official Borderlands Twitter account … does something interesting. At first I didn’t quite understand it, but I’m back in 2019, now I understand what can happen.

The Borderlands account posted a “story so far” video about Borderlands 1. This is actually the same video that was first released in April 2019. This was shortly followed by a Borderlands 2 “story so far” video with Handsome Jack. after. These came before the worldwide release of Borderlands 3 in May, but after the announcement of BL3 in March 2019.

The idea here is that Gearbox is going through these again before a new, third video about Borderlands 3, which will lead to an announcement about Borderlands 4. We already know Gearbox is working on it, it’s just a matter of fact. how much and when will be their release schedule. My suspicion is that they might try to do a big reveal or even air the Borderlands movie when it comes out this August. Synergy and all that.

For context, with Borderlands 3 being announced in March 2019, the game was actually released that September, nearly six months later that year. So fans are hoping that it might finally be that year, and that this shared video isn’t just recycling old content from five years ago, it’s just something to throw around on social media. This can be interpreted as teasing.

While some may have misread the end of the video as an announcement that Handsome Jack will return rather than an introduction to the BL2 video, I think it could be Gearbox. will be return it. He is by far the most popular villain of the series and indeed one of the most popular characters so far and I don’t think they can resist the temptation.

Gearbox is in the odd situation of being bought by the Embracer Group, but will still publish Borderlands with its old ties to 2K. Speaking of villains, Embracer has been a blight on the industry, buying up studios, laying off staff en masse, and shutting down projects, mostly a new Deus Ex game recently. There have been rumors that the cash-strapped company might sell Gearbox to plug the revenue gap after the deal closes, but that has yet to materialize.

As for Borderlands 4, it’s entering a market where it’s done content add-ons and DLC in the past, but may feel the need to go down the “live” route rather than the traditional seasonal/combat transition route we’ve seen. with many more new games. But it’s an OG looter shooter, and it looks like it’ll still find a big audience for a fourth game in any format. I wonder how its visuals and humor will continue to age, but in the modern gaming landscape, in general, the third game was not as well received as the second. We’ll see where these jokes go.
