Day 2 Prelims heat sheets

After things get started with relays and diving on Monday and Tuesday, the first full day of action at the 2024 SEC Championships is here.

Following the traditional NCAA schedule, this first beta session will feature heats of the women’s and men’s 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free.

Here’s the biggest news from the heat sheets and pre-scratch report. Bella Sims She will not compete in the 500 freestyle, where she holds the top time in the NCAA this season (4:32.53). Instead, Sims entered NT in the 200 IM. Her best time in the event is 1:52.73 from the 2022 Winter Juniors. Her teammate Isabel Ivey She already owns the conference’s top time this season (1:54.18) and will compete in the 200 IM today.

The Sims 500 free throws clear the way. Rachel Stege To control the competition properly. Sims and Stege had a great battle at the Georgia Fall Invitational; Sims won the race but Stege swam a personal best time of 4:32:87. That time gives her a three-second advantage over the rest of the field going into the day.

In the men’s 500 freestyle, Jake And Charlie Hawk They compete side by side in the final heat. While leading the 800 freestyle relay yesterday, Hawk swam 1:30.75, .45 seconds off his personal best. He comes into the 500 freestyle with a personal best of 4:12.91 starting midway and Gahe holds the top seed in 4:10.60. Defending champion Jake Mitchell He competes in two heats earlier.

With Mitchell, Bayer Nelson And Jordan Crooks They are gearing up to defend their 2023 crown. Nelson and Crooks are the top seeds in their respective events. Nelson is seeded at 1:41.33 in the 200 IM and Crooks comes in with an 18.40 50 freestyle. He and Josh Leandro– who competed in the 800 free relay instead of the 200 medal race on Day 1 – are the only two in the conference to have been under 19 seconds this season, but look for that to change this morning.
