DeMeco Ryans is returning to Houston.

Ryans has reached an agreement with the Texans to become their next head coach, according to multiple reports. Things have been pointing in that direction for the past few days, and Ryan had a second interview with the Texans after the 49ers’ loss to the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.

Ryans spent the past two seasons as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator and the 49ers have allowed the fewest points in the league heading into the 2022 season. Ryans was previously the Niners’ inside linebackers coach before transitioning to coaching after a 10-year career as a player.

He spent his first six seasons with the Texans, making Ryan the 33rd overall pick of the 2006 draft. He made the All-Pro team with Houston for the final four years of his playing career before moving to the Eagles.

Ryan will be the Texans’ fifth head coach starting in the 2020 season, and the prospect in Houston will keep the carousel from taking another spin for years.
