Say what you want of multi-franchise monster that Fortnite has becomebut at least its developers know how to crack a solid joke.

Fortnite’s newest skin references the phrase “dead game,” a long-running diss-turned-joke in online video game communities. The skin comes as part of a new aesthetic item pack called the Checkers Past Pack. The pack contains many items, including leather wearing black nail polish, a checkered hat, and a sleeveless black turtleneck with “Dead Game” written on it in white letters.

The phrase refers to a long-running meme that people use to dismiss the game or claim that it’s no longer relevant. Basically this phrase is used to mean that a game has been deprecated and is no longer played or liked by people. (A phrase used to describe many moons Fortnite although there is no actual evidence to support it.) Because it is so misapplied to games that maintain active player bases, it is often used as a derisive retort to players who feel that interest in a particular game is waning.

It’s a fun way for developers to ignore potential haters. If you think your skin is beautiful, you’re in luck. The full package is available for purchase at the time of publication Fortnite item shop and can be purchased for $3.99 or 600 V-Bucks.
