If you’ve ever remodeled a kitchen, you may have been challenged by the lack of a way to attach smart lighting under your cabinets. This was my experience a few years ago when I wanted to light up my kitchen counters by putting a smart, dimmable white light under my cabinets that I could also dim.

There were no wired options for smart LED lights that would run under the cabinets. The only option I found was to connect a standard LED light strip to a smart switch, meaning it wouldn’t change color or dim, but I could control them remotely and on a schedule – or I could use a plug-in smart light strip to get the effects. I wanted to, but at the expense of taking multiple outlets in my kitchen and having thick cables running everywhere.

Then, at CES earlier this year, I saw the Cync under-cabinet lights set up and running in a mock kitchen, and they looked impressive. They have a wide but slim profile, almost invisible under the cabinet from most angles, but emit more light than a standard strip light. They also have a diffuse effect, which means there’s no harsh pin light from the LEDs reflecting off your countertops. I have some samples I plan to test and will have a full review soon.

Color and adjustable white light make a lot of sense in the kitchen. It provides task lighting when cooking or cleaning, and can switch to a dim color-changing light when you want a more colorful glow at dinner or when it’s time to relax.

Cync’s new lights offer all these features and work with the Cync app Savant smart home system. This allows you to schedule lights and add them to scenes. They are also compatible with smart home platforms for voice control and other functions, and have physical buttons for direct control.

Cync Smart Undercabinet Fixtures require 120V AC power and operate on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. They come in 12-inch ($59.99), 18-inch ($64.99) and 24-inch ($69.99) rim light bars and three-inch diameter disc lights ($84.99). For larger spaces, you can connect up to 10 lights and power them all from one source.
