The Seahawks got a bevy of players in their blockbuster trade with the Broncos. For quarterback Russell Wilson. The team could have traded for Baker Mayfield or someone else after taking Drew Lock to go along with Geno Smith, but instead, they entered a quarterback battle in the preseason.

Veteran quarterback Smith, who has been with the Seahawks since 2020, won the battle and earned a chance to face the Broncos. He turned out to be a winner.

After the game, it summed up the night perfectly.

“They wrote to me, I didn’t even write,” he told ESPN of the doubters.

Smith was 23-for-28 with 195 passing yards and two passing touchdowns — one to Colby Parkinson and the other to Will Disley. Eight different Seahawks receivers caught a pass in the game.

“When people say ‘what I’ve been through,’ I think that’s a stretch, man. I’ve been in the NFL for 10 years, so it’s funny to say what I’ve been through. And then to say people wrote. I’m doing it now. I mean, ‘I’ve never written again.’ I don’t listen to things,” he said via the band’s website.

“I just work. I know what’s in me. God has blessed me with talent and passion and passion. I don’t worry about naysayers or anything, I don’t get into that kind of stuff. People can write you off, but life is about what you’ve done. I’ve been blessed to be in the NFL for 10 years and my butt.” I’m working on it. It’s a team game, and we got a win tonight as a team.”
