An Australian professional cleaner has revealed the common mistakes people make when cleaning their homes.

Kacie, running The Big Clean Co Melbourne said mistakes not only make a home ‘look bad’ but can also cause damage.

“Cleaning isn’t hard as long as you follow some simple rules,” she wrote, sharing a TikTok video to educate others.

First, many people use too much water when cleaning the floors, which can destroy the wooden floor and leave unwanted stains on the tiles.

“Wake that broom well,” he said.

Melbourne-based professional cleaner Kacie Stephens, CEO of The Big Clean Co, revealed the common mistakes people make when cleaning their homes.

It is common to use too much product, just as too much water is used when wiping.

“It makes the floor feel sticky under your shoes—nobody likes that,” says Kacie.

Windex is a popular product used to clean windows for a non-sticky shine. However, Kacie said it can be “inefficient and ineffective” if used incorrectly.

“Instead, soap it up and shake it for a sharp finish,” she says.

Next, it is important to ensure that your vacuum cleaner is clean or it will not work properly.

Kacie said a dirty vacuum can lead to “poor suction” and “poor air quality” because dust can re-enter the home, which can affect those with allergies.

Finally, not taking care of your vacuum head is another common mistake that can lead to scratching wooden floorboards.

“Clean it regularly to prevent lint from getting stuck in the tires (clogging them) and check for damaged parts,” Kacie added.

Kacie says common mistakes can cause damage, from using too much water when washing to using the wrong Windex.
When cleaning windows, most people turn to Windex for a streak-free shine. However, Kacie said it can be ‘inefficient and ineffective’ on glass surfaces. “Instead, soap it up and shake it for a sharp finish,” she says

Kacie is known for sharing helpful cleaning tips with thousands of people on TikTok, and earlier this year she unveiled an unlikely product she swears can turn around a dirty oven and make it sparkling clean.

He recommends using a pumice stone when tackling dirty ovens with baked-on foods.

The scrubbing product removes unwanted oils quickly and effectively without leaving a scratch – and it’s chemical-free.

In another video, Kacie recorded herself using a pumice stone to demonstrate how well it worked.

“This is a professional cleaning tip for removing build-up from under your stove,” he says.

“Just take a pumice stick. It will literally scrape your stove without scratching it.’
