Brock Purdy Usa 21936840 E1700552356649

When the NFL released its schedule in May, this was the 49ers’ three-game sequence that jumped off the page.

in Seattle. in Philadelphia. against Seattle at Levi’s Stadium.

Three crucial games in three weeks that will go a long way in deciding the NFC West and possibly a seed in the conference.

The 49ers enter this regular season with a 7-3 record and one game ahead of the Seahawks in the division standings.

Everything we’ll learn about the 49ers this season has yet to be written, and there could be many twists and turns.

The 49ers have lost three games between five and two games. Coach Kyle Shanahan fielded questions two weeks ago when it was suggested that quarterback Brook Purdy should be benched. Overwhelming responses were coming from all directions.

So, now, let’s take the fan temperature after the 49ers’ Week 11 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

We went to Threads for this 49ers overreaction payoff and here’s what we found:

The San Francisco Forty Niners have the best quarterback in the league! (@blinghelmetsbywally)

Overreaction? No.

Who has played better than Brock Purdy this season in terms of performance and stats?

Quick note: The NFL’s passer rating system is based on completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdowns per attempt and interceptions per attempt. All of these are meaningful statistics that accurately and accurately assess the quarterbacks’ production.

Purdy earned the highest possible rating in the 49ers’ 27-14 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. And he was leading the NFL in stats entering the Week 11 slate.

His current mark of 115.1 puts him in the top 10 on the NFL’s all-time single-season list, and is the 49ers record.

While we recognize that Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes is the best player and has two Super Bowl rings in his locker, right now — it’s not a stretch to make the statement that Purdy is playing the best football of any quarterback in the NFL.

The only knock anyone has made on Purdy since his tenure in the NFL is that he doesn’t have a very strong arm. And while that’s true — there are other quarterbacks in the league who can throw it faster and further — no other quarterback in the league has been as successful with deep passes as Purdy this season.

49ers front 4 is great, can we survive Hufanga injury (@vincedmonroy)

Overreaction? No.

The 49ers acquired edge rusher Chase Young at the NFL trade deadline for a reason.

And while it won’t help make up for the damage in the defensive backfield specifically, the idea is that a better pass rush will help the 49ers at every level of their defense.

Talnoa Huffanga is a devastating loss at safety with a torn ACL in his right knee. There is no way around that. But the season goes on.

Fortunately for the team, they chose to address the position in the draft with the selection of Jair Brown.

“We knew we needed some depth there,” Shanahan said of the decision to select Brown in the third round. “He was practicing like he knew this time would come. It’s closed.”

The 49ers secondary will be the Achilles heel and cost them a deep playoff run. (@Perrin 49)

Overreaction? Yes.

If the 49ers fall short in their goal of winning the Lombardi Trophy, it may be because they can’t keep up against a strong passing attack.

But if it does, the offense won’t — or shouldn’t — fall entirely on the defensive backfield.

Pass rush and coverage go hand in hand. If the 49ers’ secondary is getting beat, it means the team’s pass rush isn’t doing its job.

There is no defensive backfield in the NFL that can hold coverage for long without the quarterback being pressured.

The fact is, the 49ers pass defense is pretty good this season, so don’t forget that.

Remember the classes for determining the NFL passer rating (see above)? Opponents compiled a low 70.1 rating against the 49ers.

Trent Williams is our best player. (@controversycow)

Overreaction? No.

We’re going to sidestep this one and let Christian McCaffrey take it on the goal line.

“He’s probably the best player I’ve ever seen,” McCaffrey recently said of Williams.

Yes, that is a high praise.

Williams is tied with Aaron Rodgers among active NFL players with 10 Pro Bowl selections. Rodgers won’t make the Pro Bowl this season, and neither will Williams.

Here’s how McCaffrey described Williams: “There’s nothing he can’t do.” He plays beyond X and Os and does things that a lot of other people can’t do, and he’s been doing it for a long time.”

Kyle SB should win. That’s the measuring stick now, anything short is failure. (@jtf321)

Overreaction? No.

Shanahan isn’t going anywhere. He signed a contract extension that will keep him with the 49ers through at least the 2026 season.

Shanahan is generally regarded as one of the best coaches in the NFL, and for good reason. he is.

But for him to be considered truly outstanding, yes, the 49ers would have to win a Super Bowl under him.

If the 49ers don’t win this season, the organization will be disappointed. But he should have more opportunities in the coming years.
