HOUSTON — Jose Altuve, one of the most prolific and popular players in Astros history and the cornerstone of two World Series championship teams, may end his career in Houston.

The second baseman agreed to a third five-year contract extension with Houston on Tuesday. The deal starts in 2025 and Altuve will be 39 years old. The deal is worth $125 million, including $30 million per season from 2025-27, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The club has not confirmed the contract.

“It’s huge,” Astros owner Jim Crane told MLB.com from the owners’ meetings in Orlando. Altuve was here when I got here in 2011.
