But Judge Donato really looks after them. It asked Google to calculate the cost of complying with these requirements by June 24, a month from now:

By June 24, 2024, Google will submit a proposal to provide “Catalog Access” and “Library Portability” to competing app stores for up to 6 years for the required technological work and economic costs, if any. See MDL Dkt. No. 952, 7. The proposal may also address the technical work and economic costs for the distribution of third-party application stores through the Google Play Store.

MDL Dkt. Number 952 is Epic’s 16-page list of requests, and number 7 is the page to force Google to give up. other App stores access to the entire Google Play app catalog, if Epic gets its way. Take a look:

Just below “Directory access and Library porting” is the other big request Judge Donato has in mind: Google will port other third-party app stores in the Google Play store for six years.

Under the order, Epic will have a chance to question and rebut Google experts and engineers about the accuracy of their estimates before a final hearing on August 14. At yesterday’s evidentiary hearing, Judge Donato was very skeptical of Google’s arguments against Epic’s proposed tools, while suggesting that some of Epic’s requests were “open and very vague.”
