That post received 56.1 million likes, but the image of Messi lifting the World Cup trophy after Argentina beat France in Sunday’s World Cup final has now gone viral.

Messi’s post has racked up an incredible 56 million likes since being uploaded, while the forward has more than 402 million followers on social media.

Messi captioned the post: ‘World Champions!!!!!!! I dreamed of it so many times, I wanted it so much that I didn’t fail until now, I can’t believe it……

‘Thank you so much to my family, everyone who supports me and believes in us. Argentinians show once again that we can achieve what we set out to do when we fight and work together.

The Portuguese star tops the list with Messi a distant second – the only two athletes in the top 10.

Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Khloe Kardashian and Justin Bieber rounded out the top 10.

The photo received 56.1 million likes, taking aim at the most popular Instagram post at the time, a picture of Kylie Jenner’s daughter, which had 18.6 million likes.
