The Major League Baseball 2024 regular season begins at Los Angeles Dodgers And San Diego Padres Meeting in Seoul, South Korea for the first of two games Wednesday (6 a.m. ET).

The Dodgers enter the new season as World Series favorites after spending more than a billion dollars on their free agents. Los Angeles has given two-time MVP Shohei Ohtani a 10-year, $700 million contract and Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto a 12-year, $325 million contract.

Wednesday marks the first time an MLB regular season game has been played in Korea.

Stay tuned here all morning for live updates and highlights from the 2024 MLB season opener:

Thanks to Xander Bogaerts’ first run of the 2024 season, the Padres got a run on Tyler Wade in the third inning. Wade led off with a walk, then took second on a wild pitch and third on starter Jackson Merrill’s flyout, setting up Bogart’s single.

The Dodgers threatened to score in the third inning.

Shohei Ohtani, baseball’s highest-paid player, picked up his first hit as a Dodger – a 112.3 mph bat to right field with two outs. He immediately stole second base on the first pitch to Freddie Freeman.

Freeman and Will Smith both walked to load the bases, but Yu Darvish struck out Max Muncie to get out of the game.

Dodgers 0, Padres 0 – Middle of the third innings

Dodgers third baseman Max Muncie delivered his first hit of the 2024 season after hitting the Padres’ Yu Darvish. But the Dodgers couldn’t capitalize. In the bottom half of the inning, Tyler Glasnow would work around a two-out walk to Jurickson Profar to record another scoreless inning. After two innings, the score remained 0-0.

After an at-bat for Mookie Betts that ended with a peak-hour infraction, Padres starter Yu Darvish retired the next three batters. Shohei Ohtani grounded into a fielder’s choice, Freddie Freeman struck out and Will Smith flied out to left field to end the top of the first inning.

Tyler Glasnow, making his regular season debut as the Dodgers’ Opening Day starter, went 1-2-3 against the Padres.

The Dodgers and Padres opener in Seoul, South Korea, will go ahead as scheduled after bomb threats were made against Los Angeles star Shohei Ohtani and others. Los Angeles Times.

Seoul authorities described the perpetrator as a man with a history of making false claims. An MLB spokesman said the game would go ahead as scheduled.

MLB continues to monitor the situation:

“The safety and security of our fans and everyone in the ballparks where we play is always our top priority,” the league said in a statement. “MLB Security works closely with local authorities to ensure a safe environment for all who attend our games. MLB, along with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and other local authorities, are monitoring the situation closely and will take any appropriate action during the event.”

Chan Ho Park, the first Korean player to play in the big leagues, threw the first home run to Padres shortstop Ha-Seung Kim.

The Dodgers vs. Padres game in Seoul, South Korea begins Wednesday at 6 a.m. ET.

Wednesday’s game between the Dodgers and the Padres begins ESPNIt starts at 6 a.m. ET.

The Dodgers lineup has been posted and features three former MVPs 1-2-3 – SS Mookie Betts, DH Shohei Ohtani, 1B Freddie Freeman.

For the Padres, top prospect Jackson Merrill will start in center field, making his MLB debut at just 20 years old. Merrill joins only Ken Griffey Jr. and Andrew Jones in the past 50 years to start Opening Day in center field before turning 21.

Check out the two lineups:

The Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul is hosting Dodgers and Padres games on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s the home ballpark of KBO’s Kiwoom Heroes.

Here are the dimensions of the stadium:

  • Left field – 325 feet
  • Right field – 325 feet
  • Midfield – 400 feet

After signing a $700 million contract — the largest in North American sports history — Shohei Ohtani will start the regular season for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in Seoul.

Ohtani, a two-time MVP with the Los Angeles Angels, will not be active in 2024 as he recovers from elbow surgery, but he will be the Dodgers’ everyday starter as the team looks to make a 12th straight season appearance.

Ohtani joins a loaded Los Angeles lineup that features former MVPs in Mokie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

San Diego shortstop Ha-Seong Kim He returned home for the MLB Seoul Series, returning to the Gocheok Sky Dome where he previously played home games for the KBO’s Nexen/Kiwoom Heroes.

Kim made his debut at age 19 and spent seven seasons with the Korean team, hitting .294 with an .866 OPS and averaging over 20 home runs. He joined the Padres before the 2021 season and won his first MLB Gold Glove award last season.

I think this is only possible because of the former Asian players who played in the big leagues. Kim told reporters in Seoul this week.. “They paved the way for me and other Asian players who are going now. … Hopefully, that will inspire more Asian baseball players to dream of playing in the big leagues.
