The decision to impose a one-game suspension on the receiver Mike Evans It was just part of the league’s response to the brouhaha between the Sunday Bucks and the Saints. The NFL also had a message for the team and former head coach Bruce Arians.
According to a league source familiar with the situation, the NFL sent a warning letter to Arians and the Buccaneers after Sunday’s incident.
Arians was generally right on the bench, but was clearly in the white stripe reserved for officials, players and coaches during the altercation. He is also clearly involved in the verbal aspect of Kerfuffle.
The specifics of the warning are unknown at this point. Presumably, the Buccaneers will face possible penalties in the game, and Arians will face disciplinary action, including a fine or possibly being kicked off the bench. Regardless, it might not get there.
“He will,” the source said.
The league recognizes that it may be problematic for a former head coach to serve as an unofficial proxy and/or otherwise pretend that he is still the coach when he is not. The league would do well to shut it down quickly and decisively.
