Niantic is testing new visual changes in Pokémon GO

Halloween Map 1

Trainers, Niantic, have announced that they will be testing new visual changes to Pokémon GO in select locations around the world in the coming months.

“We are constantly striving to improve the Pokémon GO experience. That’s why we want to ensure that our changes benefit and have a strong, positive impact on the larger community, as well as the experience of each individual Trainer, before rolling it out globally.”

In these regions, trainers can see:

  • Visual changes to the in-game Pokémon GO map, including encounter screens.

There are already reports on social media showing different backgrounds from the trainers in New Zealand, new capture screens, maps and GBL backgrounds that more accurately reflect the biomes the trainers are playing in.

We previously had custom backgrounds for Halloween and Christmas, giving trainers hope that there might be potential for more permanent biome backgrounds, and it looks like Niantic is testing these now! As always, we welcome you trainers in New Zealand and the APAC region to try out these new features!

Are you in one of the areas testing these new background updates? Don’t forget to share the photos on social networks and tag us!
