GTA 6 is slated for release sometime in 2025, and the sequel’s publisher said during a financial results call that it’s looking for perfection before the long-awaited open-world game finally launches.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two, told an investor when asked how a publisher decides when to release a game like this: “We’re looking for perfection, and when we feel like we’re creatively optimized, that’s when it’s time to release.” GTA 6. Zelnik then assured investors that “we’re all in this” and that both developers and administrators have financial incentives to ensure that development doesn’t drag on forever.

“There’s potentially an inherent tension between bringing something to market and creating perfection,” Zelnick said, “but this company errs on the side of perfection.”

In response to another investor, Zelnick said that compared to GTA 5, “our feeling is that the expectations [for GTA 6] higher – very, very high. On the other hand, you know, 195 million units [of GTA 5 sold] nothing to sneeze at so far. We’re a little early into making predictions about what the title will be like, but obviously the expectations are very, very high.”

When GTA 6 launches in 2025, there will be a 12-year gap between it and GTA 5, the longest of any major entry in the series. No wonder the sequel is eagerly awaited. As noted in Take-Two financial reportthe first GTA 6 trailer reached 93 million views in 24 hours – the biggest launch in YouTube history for anything other than music videos.

After threatening Rockstar with a $10 million lawsuit, Florida Joker, who was parodied in the GTA 6 trailer, now wants to voice the character instead.
