Microsoft’s management cares a lot about this business, and a number of its recent business decisions are aimed at attracting more people to this subscription service. One of those projects was called Keystone, a special streaming device that would allow Game Pass customers to play Xbox games without an Xbox console. After the first, the project finally happened . That team instead shifted focus to smart TV streaming software, and Keystone disappeared into the void. Today, A patent has surfaced showing what a Keystone might look like.

This has more details on the project than we have from Xbox management. The only footage we’ve seen so far was a teaser image of Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. in 2022. But now we can see that a squat, square device would have a circular pattern above and a circular plate below. It also featured the expected cable ports and controller pairing button.

Microsoft has recently launched new hardware, but few of them stick the landing. Even the company’s Xbox hardware announcement is being updated at the latest Summer Games Fest after a leak hinted at bigger plans. Hopefully Xbox can score a big win on the hardware side soon. For now, a glimpse of what could have been is a neat background on the company and its development process.
