Chicago Cubs Peter Shota Imanaga His big-league career continued with his impressive start against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, reaching a height not seen by a Cubs pitcher in 115 years.

Imanaga picked up his second win of the season in his third career start, striking out four Mariners and giving up just one unearned run in a 4-1 win over Seattle.

The win gave the Cubs a chance to take the series against the Mariners, but it also put Imanga in some truly elite company.

Armed with a 2-0 record, Imanaga’s ERA was a flawless 0.000 in 15.1 innings pitched on the season.

According to Baseball Reference Stat Tool, Imanaga is the first Cubs pitcher since 1909 to post a perfect ERA in his first three career starts, with King Cole being the last to do so. In the year The only other Cubs pitcher to hit the streak since 1900 was Ed Relbach, who did so in 1905.

Cole threw two complete games during that stretch, but issued 13 walks, compared to just two in 15.1 innings for Imanaga.

The rookie pitcher has given up just nine hits and one unearned run to date, with two walks and 16 strikeouts.

It will be settled next Thursday night when the Cubs return home for a four-game series against the Miami Marlins.
