New Splatoon 3 Nintendo has just released by releasing version 1.1.1.

This is a notable patch as it contains changes and fixes to various aspects of the game. Splatfests, player control, multiplayer, Salmon Run, and single player are all touched on in one way or another.

One thing that’s particularly noticeable is that Nintendo has adjusted the rate at which Tricolor Battles occur, and from the defending team’s perspective, they will trigger a little less often than before. However, Nintendo says the change is “temporary.”

The full patch notes for Splatoon 3 version 1.1.1 update are as follows:

Changes to Splatfests

  • Adjusted the rate at which Tricolor Battle occurs. From a defensive team’s perspective, they’ll be running a little less often than before.

Changes to Player Controls

  • Fixed an issue where it was possible to jump further than usual with Squid Roll by performing a certain input while charging Squid Wave.
  • Fixed issues that occurred when playing for long periods of time without closing the software, such as the player’s primary weapon not firing correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the player could walk through water or stand on water while moving fast. For example, when performing a Dodge Roll with Splat Dualies.

Changes to multiplayer

  • Fixed the issue of high frequency connection errors occurring at the end of battles due to connection environment.
  • Fixed an issue with Bloblobber where the collision detection of the third and fourth blobs of a single volley was too small.
  • Fixed an issue where money and experience would not be awarded in certain cases when a battle ends early due to a lack of players.
  • Fixed an issue in certain modes where a player could not cancel a match if not enough other players were collected. The match will now be canceled automatically after a certain amount of time has passed.
  • Fixed an issue where it was possible to access the back side of certain bridges in Sturgeon Shipyard.

Changes to Salmon Run

  • Fixed the problem of high frequency connection errors occurring at the end of jobs due to the connection environment.
  • Fixed an issue with Mudmouth Eruption events where Mudmouths would act in unexpected ways.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some players with the same title to be considered “ranked supporters” and not earn Rank Points.
  • Fixed an issue where continuously damaging submerged Maws with certain special weapons would cause the game to crash.
  • Fixed an issue with players getting trapped inside the stage area.
  • Fixed an issue where the amount of Grizzco Points earned at the end of a battle would appear smaller than the amount actually added to save data, causing the player to fail to collect rewards.
  • Fixed an issue where messages at the beginning of Wave 3 could change depending on whether or not King Salmonid was shown.

Changes to story mode

  • Fixed an issue where a communication error would occur in the middle of a certain scene and bring the player back to the field after clearing the final stage.
    • The post-cleansing cutscenes can be viewed by deleting the final stage again.
    • In cases where this error occurs, the last stage is treated as cleared and the stage can be skipped from the pause menu when trying again.

Other Changes

  • Fixed an issue where the game would get stuck when starting the game for the first time and not progress from a black screen after a screen where yellow and blue ink are mixed.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would sometimes not progress when downloading a battle replay.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash when the table was updated when trying to join a friend.
  • Fixed a rare issue where the game would crash while the player was visiting the store.
  • Fixed an issue where a communication error could occur when the player was buying and selling equipment in the shop.
  • Fixed an issue where a connection error could occur when purchasing a weapon. The weapon appears to be equipped despite the player not being able to pick it up, causing a connection error if the player attempts to join the battle.

Because this update patch focuses on Splatfest-related changes and fixes bugs that can significantly impact gameplay, we’ve prioritized its release.

Please note that changes to the Tricolor Battle frequency should be considered temporary. For now, there will be slightly more cases of players choosing Tricolor Battle but being placed in a Turf War battle instead. In the future, tweaks to the Splatfest matchmaking features will continue and this issue will be fixed. We plan to implement these adjustments with the new season starting in December.

The next patch will mainly focus on balance fixes and other issues that are beyond the scope of the current patch.
