Spotify announced today the launch of a new Basic paid plan that offers a small discount to reduce access to audiobooks. The Basic option, which costs $10.99 per month, includes all of Spotify’s music benefits, such as ad-free streaming, but without the added monthly audiobook listening time.

General Spotify Feature
Spotify’s standard $11.99 Premium Personal plan includes ad-free playback from a catalog of more than 250,000 titles and 15 hours of audiobook listening time per month. Until now, Spotify didn’t allow customers to choose a cheaper plan that didn’t include audiobook access because it was automatically bundled with the lowest-tier plan.

In June, Spotify raised its base price from $10.99 to $11.99 to “bring the best user experience,” but with the new Basic plan, customers who don’t want to use the audiobook feature can get the previous price of $10.99 per month.

Spotify’s new $10.99 per month option is on par with Apple Music’s $10.99 per month, so Spotify is no longer $1 more than Apple Music for its basic music subscription service.

There has been no change in the prices of other plans. Duo costs $16.99 and Family costs $19.99. Spotify also has a $9.99 per month plan that offers 15 hours of audiobook listening with ad-supported music.
