concept Working from home has been completely redefined in the past few years. Many people can do this as long as they have Wi-Fi and a computer technically work from anywhere. But for people accustomed to switching between multiple monitors or constantly walking around behind a desk, working away from home requires lugging around a bunch of peripherals to be productive.
What if you didn’t have to hunch over a dark, tiny laptop screen at a coffee shop? Now you can harness the power of a multi-monitor device with a pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses and a keyboard. was created by a new company called Reccommended to see, Spacetop, founded by former Magic Leap executives, is doing just that. As the world’s first AR laptop, it offers the convenience of a 100-inch virtual screen with the ability to display as many windows and apps as you need to get work done, wherever you are.
It is available for purchase through an invitation-only early access program for $2,000. Selective deliveries will begin in early July. Anyone can apply, but Sightful says it’s specifically looking for “enthusiastic early adopters” who will provide feedback the company can use to improve the experience.
Updated May 18: An earlier version of this article said the Spacetop had a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. It is powered by Snapdragon 865. We’ve edited the story to reflect this.

I spent a short time with Spacetop, but I was surprised by how little it had. It’s a pair of glasses connected to a full-sized keyboard with a wired touchpad. At 3.3 pounds, it’s slightly heavier than the latest 2.7-pound MacBook Air, and it’s compact enough to slip easily into your backpack or bag.
To help bring Spacetop into its current form, Sightful took existing hardware from NReal (known for its AR glasses) and Wistron (an electronics maker that works with laptop brands like HP and Dell). But the company has taken the time to customize the device by adding well-thought-out features to enhance the experience.
The glasses have been repeated several times to ensure that they are comfortable to wear for a long time without leaving marks on your face, combing your hair and ruining your makeup. The headset is also optimized for close viewing of content such as reading text. There is a physical button on the right arm that controls the screen brightness.
You can order AR glasses with prescription lenses at no extra charge (by invitation only). Your Spacetop will then ship with a pair of special ground lenses that are magnetically attached. I usually wear AR and VR headsets over my glasses, so I was relieved to be able to test the device with lenses that matched my prescription.
