It’s been another blockbuster year for video games as AAA exclusives and indie darlings raise the bar for quality. From lavish remakes to amazing original titles, the PlayStation library has grown with the addition of these titles this year, and we’ve rounded up the best of the best based on critical numbers collected from GameSpot’s sister site, Metacritic.
2022 was booked by two of Sony’s strongest console-exclusive titles, Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok, while also seeing a big shift towards PC releases of older first-party games between months. With Nixxes leading the way, PC gamers were able to get their hands on enhanced Spider-Man, God of War, and Uncharted games on this system.
Rounding out the list of new releases has been a selection of strong third-party games spanning a wide range of genres and themes. Some were amazingly weird, others were repetitive updates, and we’ve seen some fantastic retro compilations come out this year.
The list below covers both PS5 and PS4 releases. This year’s cross-gen approach allowed for a more cohesive and cohesive list of top-scoring games. We have listed these games from highest Metascore to lowest.
