The best argument for Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is that he’s managed consecutive 12-win seasons. That argument probably also applies to various members of the coaching staff who now find themselves out of a job.

As PFT announced earlier in the week, the contracts have expired for all but four members of the coaching staff. But it is still firing as a practical matter of not giving a new contract.
And it makes me wonder if something else is going on behind the scenes. Something like how owner Jerry Jones strategically lined up a replacement before firing the head coach because Jones would only fire the head coach if Jones found a replacement he wanted.
In unrelated (or not) developments, Sean Payton’s candidacy appears to be in the thick of things with four teams expressing interest in his services.
