Prosecutors dismissed a domestic violence charge against Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic on Friday after Milan’s wife, Brittney Lucic, refused to testify against her husband in Boston Municipal Court, claiming marital rights.

According to the Associated Press, once Brittany Lucich refused to testify, prosecutors felt they could not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Lucic was charged with assault and battery on a family or family member in connection with an incident on November 18, 2023.

Lucic, 35, remains on indefinite leave from the Bruins for the remainder of 2023-24. Following the incident, the Bruins suspended Lucic indefinitely. He was also enrolled in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

Lucic’s one-year, $1 million contract expires at the end of the season. As such, he may have played his last game for the Bruins.

Even if the attacker continues, he is still considered an injured player. Lucic was on long-term injured reserve at the time of the accident. The Bruins could exceed the $83.5 million salary cap by some or all of Lucic’s AAV.

“The Boston Bruins organization supports Milan and his family as he continues his personal recovery,” the team said in a statement.

Lucic’s agent, Gerry Johansson, did not respond to a request for comment before the Bruins announced Lucic’s extension.
