The Johnson County Department of Health and Environmental Protection said a man has been diagnosed with “estimated positive” monkey disease.
KDHE says this is the first speculative positive issue in Kansas.
Health officials said the man had recently traveled abroad. KHDE says it is working with health officials to identify recently leaked information.

Common symptoms of KDHE include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Swelling lymph nodes
- Cold means cold
- Fatigue
- Acne or blister-like rash (appears on face, mouth, head, legs, chest)
KDHE Anyone with symptoms or monkeypox should call their doctor as soon as possible.
Risk factors for monkey disease within 21 days of onset of symptoms include the following:
- Contact people or persons who have a similar rash or who have had a confirmed or possible monkey disease or diagnosis
- Interacting with people who have been infected with monkey disease on a social network, including an online website, digital app or social event, or contact with partners
- A recent trip outside of the United States to the site of a confirmed or confirmed monkey virus infection
- Contact with dead or living wild animals or exotic animals uses products derived from African or similar animals (game meat, cream, lotion, flour, etc.).
Monkey Vaccination The vaccine is available to people who have been exposed to monkey disease. Vaccination is very limited in the United States. KDHE says only the residents he meets will be eligible for vaccination at this time. KDHE increases eligibility because additional amounts are available.
