What you need to know

  • The First Descendant is an all-new MMORPG loot shooter making waves in the video game community.
  • On the second day of its official release, The First Descendant’s servers experienced many problems.
  • Many players reported that they were unable to connect to the game at all, while others reported occasional crashes even in the middle of missions.
  • After multiple hiatuses and two server outages, it looks like First Generation is finally back (and players are being compensated for the inconvenience).

Update, July 3, 2024 – Updated after the second round of server maintenance for The First Descendant has finished.

First Generation was almost playable on its second day, but the server issues are (hopefully) now fully resolved. Nexon has completed its second round of in-game server maintenance and The First Descendant is back online. I can confirm that you can log in without any delay or delay.

Nexon is giving away a collection of 3-day, 30% profit boosters for Gold, Kuiper Shard, Descendant XP, and Weapon XP to all players who log in for the next five days as compensation for their idle hours today. Players can receive compensation rewards from the mailbox at headquarters, and power-ups will activate immediately after being redeemed.

Hopefully, day three will go more smoothly for First Generation, who need a strong win to secure a healthy future. If you want to get all the details on the whole situation as it happens, our original article and updates continue directly below.

Update, July 3, 2024 – The First Descendant has been updated with server issues.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably like me – still experiencing server issues with The First Descendant. Nexon warned that there will be server instability for a while when the game comes back online, but players (myself included) are experiencing more than simple instability. The previous server connection issue that prevented players from even going through the main menu rears its ugly head again.

Hopefully this is really just a temporary side effect of all the work Nexon has to do on The First Descendant servers today, and our hours of (arbitrary) patience will result in healthier, more stable servers moving forward. For now, it looks like Day Two of First Generation will be dominated by server outages and issues, with players never again able to set foot in Ingris.

Update, July 3, 2024 – Updated as the First Generation servers are back online.

Generations have been waiting for a long time to resume the war against the Vulgus, and it seems the gates are starting to open again. The First Descendant team at Nexon has confirmed that the servers are back online and players can try to connect again, but there is a caveat.

According to Nexon, the issue with Microsoft’s Azure network is still not 100% resolved, so some players may still experience server instability while playing The First Descendant. We hope these problems are unusual and will be fixed soon. Either way, it looks like we’re finally on the other side of First Generation’s first descent into server hell.

Update, July 3, 2024 – Updated with a new announcement from the First Generation team at Nexon.

Hours later and we finally have our first proper update from The First Descendant team at Nexon. According to the update (which you can see below), the server outage still affecting the game was “primarily” due to a bug in Microsoft’s network. The use of the word “mainly” suggests that there may be other issues that need to be addressed.

As for the rest of the update, it stands to reason that the first generation will use Microsoft Azure for its server infrastructure (along with hundreds of other games, companies, and products). Apparently, an external issue in this regard is contributing to The First Descendant server crash. The Nexon team seems to be waiting for this issue to be resolved by Microsoft.

It’s unclear if this is related to the Xbox Network server outage that happened yesterday, which is linked directly below.

Update, July 3, 2024 – Updated with the latest development, meaning the First Generation goes into “service mode”.

Lest you believe I’ve left you, here’s a quick update on The First Descendant server outage. The game has been in official maintenance mode initiated by the Nexon team for a while now, so you can’t even access the main menu.

This offline maintenance mode is an intentional move by Nexon and will likely last until all server issues are resolved, at which point the game will be back online.

Update, July 3, 2024 – Updated with a response from The First Descendant team.

Time for a quick update! Less than five minutes after this post was published, the First Generation team at Nexon posted an update on Twitter (or X) acknowledging ongoing server issues, so we’re not officially hallucinating an outage. It looks like the team is investigating the cause and working on a fix – hopefully we won’t have too long to wait until the servers are back online.

For a moment, it appeared that The First Descendant would avoid the almost inevitable release date of many major multiplayer game releases, but the effect was simply delayed. We’re heading into the second day of this co-op looter shooter’s existence, and the servers have suddenly gone bad, leaving many Descendants unable to access Ingris at all.

To be precise, first time players who try to connect to the game servers for the first time are faced with an endless, repeating error code and cannot get past the main menu. Players already in the game – even in the middle of a mission – experienced sudden cuts, leaving them in the same places as players logging in for the first time today. It’s not clear if all players are affected, but the outage is clearly visible on social media (and it also affected the Windows Central team).

We are currently waiting for either the server issues to resolve themselves, or for The First Descendant team at Nexon to acknowledge the issues and begin researching a solution. So far none have happened and there is no solution that we know of to hide the server outage.

We will keep you posted on the situation as we are also interested in rejoining the fray. You can check out The First Descendant’s other known issues and launch bugs for more issues players are experiencing, but none are as dire as a full-blown server outage.

To be honest, I fully expected the server issues to show up sooner rather than later, so as long as The First Descendant team works diligently and transparently to restore the game, it won’t diminish the chances of The First Descendant becoming one of the best Xbox ever. games. It’s frustrating considering the Xbox Network experienced an outage yesterday.

The servers are currently down, but The First Descendant is available now on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, Windows PC via Steam, or PlayStation 5 or 4 and you can download it. Free on Microsoft Store (Xbox).
