And to finish, here’s the least likely Ubisoft game to be released in 2023, or maybe never. Which is incredibly sad.
Original 2003 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time it was revealing. An exceptional game that reinvents how all third-person action games should be played, with amazing rewind time mechanics and incredible 3D platforming. Unfortunately, no one thought to copy it, and 20 years later, we’re stuck in a quagmire of action games that endlessly kill us rather than allow us to move on. Oh, and there was a Jake Gyllenyhaal movie to rub salt in the wound.
A remake has been announced with an ambitious release date of January 2021 in 2020. Spoiler alert: considering how awful it looked in the trailer above, it didn’t happen, and maybe it was for the best. It was then rather optimistically delayed until March 21st, before admitting to themselves that it looked like a PS3 game and sending it on its way. Later that year, Ubisoft said it would appear in the 2022-2023 fiscal year, then took it from Indian developers Ubisoft Mumbai and gave it to Ubisoft Montreal before announcing another delay last May, without even guessing a fiscal year.
By November of last year, things were looking even worse Ubisoft canceled all pre-orders and refunded everyone’s money. Perhaps a useful lesson on why you shouldn’t pre-order games that aren’t available yet. Publisher insists that the game has not been cancelledbut has yet to offer a new release date, meaning it’s not even possible in 2024.
But hey, it’ll probably still come out before Beyond Good and Evil 2.
