ZOTAC RTX 4090 was introduced with GA102 GPU

A day after the launch of the RTX 40 “Island” series, some interesting details are revealed.

NVIDIA AIC partners are reluctant to share details about their RTX 40 board designs. NVIDIA still has some embargoes, which usually happens before the product is reviewed. Because of this, we haven’t seen any RTX 4090 board designs yet, and no real images of the AD102 GPU are available.

Interestingly, ZOTAC shows off its board in a quick preview of the company’s flagship RTX 4090, the AMP Extreme AIRO. More interestingly, the demo shows a completely different GPU, the GA102 from the RTX 30 “Ampere” series.

Instead of just holding this part or hiding the GPU altogether, ZOTAC confirms that their RTX 4090 has a GA102-350 GPU in this demo (not for the final product). This could be confirmation of some early RTX 40 rumors that the RTX 3090 Ti is a test vehicle for the new series. In some early stages, board partners were using GA102 with 450W BIOS for RTX 40 development.

Assuming the new cards use very similar board designs, the GPU may actually be pin compatible with the AD102. That would explain how the ZOTAC marketing department missed showing the wrong GPU here.
