Mega Heracross as Bug-type and Battle-type Raid

Mega Heracross will make its Pokemon GO debut on Saturday, April 13. That day will be a special raid day from 14:00 to 17:00 and will continue to be in regular Mega Raids until April 25th. In this article we will talk about it. utility as a raid attacker in both types.

Note: For this particular analysis, the simulation data for both species is 1-1.5 years old (before shadow raids became a thing) and due to time constraints I did not rerun new sims. I’m sure the general placement of the lines is still valid, but small details like the distance between the two attackers may not be perfectly accurate.

Main points

Mega Heracross, right now #1 mistake and #1 fighting striker. He is marginally outclassed by Mega Pinsir and Terrakion respectively, and will remain the best bug attacker until Shadow Volcarona becomes a thing. This too a big mega This will help other players contribute more in group raids by increasing their damage output.

Once you get out of this narrow frame, the picture becomes a little less rosy:

  • Bug types lack power especially compared to alternative attack types for the same role Ghost and Dark attackers. In particular, Mega Heracross cannot compete with Mega Tyranitar, Mega Gengar, and most other megas; These megas are more likely to give other players a 30% boost of the same type.
  • Mega Lucario it will ultimately outperform Mega Heracross solo fighting striker. But here’s an often-overlooked caveat Mega Heracross is better suited for group raids due to mass: If 2+ other players are bringing melee types, Mega Heracross usually does more group damage than Mega Lucario (assuming neutral spells).
  • In terms of group loss contribution, employee a “background” primal or Mega Ray will produce better results either now or in the future:
    • As a bug-type mega, Mega Heracross is more than a background Primal Kyogreit gives a 30% boost to others to take the wrong type of damage.
    • As a melee-type mega, any background primal does slightly more group damage than Mega Heracross without the type match; but if Mega Mewtwo X it also acquires a background enhancing feature, destroying the competition.
    • (See section 4 here for an explanation of how background primal works.)

Despite this, Mega Heracross is still an outstanding attacker overall despite the shortcomings. will be especially useful for few (mostly future) bosses where bug type counters are mandatory (the most likely of which are Kalyrex, Wo-Chien, and Iron Leaf).
