Along with the release of Octopath Traveler II on multiple other platforms this week, Square Enix has released a new update for the RPG.
This allows you to enter a new mode called “Extra Battles”, which is available after clearing the game’s story. according to some players report online, you’ll probably be able to fight Octopath Traveler characters and revisit ending bosses.
As of now, this update does not appear to be available on the Switch version. In the meantime, here’s a look at the full patch notes (via Steam), which include some other changes and additions:

This news follows the surprise release of Octopath Traveler II on Xbox and Game Pass today, as well as the original game’s release on PlayStation 4 and 5.
Octopath Traveler II originally debuted on Switch last February.
